Two corpses recovered as 18-passenger bus plunges into river

Two corpses were yesterday recovered when an-18-seater commercial bus plunged into Omo river, around J4 at Ogbere Ijebu East local government area of Ogun state.

A source at the scene of the crash stated that the Okitipupa bound passenger bus had taken off from Idumota in the Lagos Island where it was loaded with the goods.
Though the cause of the crash still remains unknown as at the time of filling this report, it was however, gathered that it took the combined efforts of personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
Policemen in the state and that of the National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, before the vehicle could be removed from the Omo river.
The state commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Adetunji Adegoke and the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi who in separate interviews confirmed the incident.
Both of them, who said the commercial bus was a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ONDO AKR 747XA also disclosed that it had carried only five passengers with goods.
The bus according to Adegoke and Adejobi was coming from Lagos and heading to Ondo town before the incident.
Adegoke however said the bus and all the five passengers who had died have been recovered.
According FRSC state chairman the passengers comprised three males and two females and had died before their bodies were recovered from the river.
The Police Public Relations said the bus had loaded some goods such household items with five passengers before it had the accident.
According to PPRO, the command had mobilised all its men such as Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander and had employed the service of local divers and the command Marines.
