The National Orientation Agency, NOA, has disclosed that 53 persons lost their lives in eleven states across Nigeria due to the 2015 flood disaster.
NOA also revealed that 100,420 persons were displaced between August and September this year as a result of the flood disaster.

Director General of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri, disclosed this yesterday at Koton/Karfe, Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State during a public enlightenment/sensitization programme for people within the flood-prone areas of Kogi State.
Omeri said the alert given by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency of excessive flooding in 2015 are real.
He said: “The unfortunate effect of flood disaster had served as an eye opener to Nigerian government, the effects of global warming and climatic change are already in the country.
“We cannot hold back the rains and the floods because they are not within our control, but we can take practical measures in ensuring our personal safety and the protection of our property from the ravaging effects of flood.
“This is why today’s programme is very apt as it provides the platform for us to remind ourselves of the dangers of flood and to take practical measures to secure our lives and properties.”
Omeri, who assured that the federal government was fully committed to the welfare of the flood victims, implored them to remain patient and be vigilant.
In his remark, the Ohimege of KotonKarfe, HRM, Alhaji Abudulrazak Isa Koto, appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of victims of flood disaster in his domain, adding that their living condition was already pathetic.
“For the past three years now, my people living along riverine areas have been passing through untold hardship as a result of flooding.
“They have lost their property and farm product to the flood disaster; that is why I am appealing to the federal government, through the National Orientation Agency, NOA, to come to our aid because the loss is too much for us to bear,” he said.
Earlier, the state Director of NOA, Chief Ibikunle Medubi, pointed out that many communities across nine local government areas of Kogi State were affected by 2015 flood, but said the devastation was not as disastrous as that of 2012.
He said the NOA recognised the socio-economic dislocation of the people due to flood as well as other challenges, and would make efforts to ameliorate the situation.
Medubi, however, commended the effort of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, for their partnership in organising the programme and their untiring efforts in giving relief materials to affected communities all over the country.
