APC chieftain assassinated in Lagos

Gunmen suspected to be assassins, yesterday, shot dead a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Shalewa Daramola, at Festac Town, in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The deceased, said to be in his 40s, was killed in front of the party’s secretariat located at 3rd Avenue, ‘K’ Close, House 12 Festac Town, where members of his party were sharing Sallah gift.

Daramola, who was the party’s Assistant Treasurer in Amuwo Odofin, was said to have stepped out to check his car, when one of the gunmen, in his 20s, emerged from an adjoining close and accosted him, demanding for money.

Apparently thinking the stranger was a beggar, Daramola was said to have told him he had no money.

The gunman was said to have shot Daramola four times at close range in the chest and, thereafter, jumped onto a waiting motorbike.

Time was 1.12p.m. Nothing was reportedly taken from him.

Daramola was said to have been rushed to the Local Government Primary Health Centre, from where he was referred to another hospital at Festac Town.

Vanguard gathered that he died on the way to the hospital.

The incident was said to have brought the Sallah gift sharing to an abrupt halt as his colleagues ran helter-skelter for safety.

Sources close to the deceased said the incident occurred a few minutes after the exit of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who visited Mile Two to inspect the traffic situation.

It was learned that chieftains of APC, who were with the governor, proceeded to where the Sallah gifts were being shared after his exit.

Area ’E‘ Commander, Mr. Frank Mba, and Festac Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Ifeanyin Owo, were said to have visited the scene.

Spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the killing, saying the command had commenced investigation.
